Daniel McCarthy to Represent Columbian Club at 2018 American Legion Boys State in June

Selected by Clarksburg Columbian Club to attend American Legion Mountaineer Boys State June 10-16 at WVU Jackson’s Mill is Daniel Liam McCarthy. 
 
McCarthy is the eldest son of Meredith and Chris McCarthy and is a junior at Bridgeport High School. McCarthy has consistently been an honor roll student. He has been a member of the BHS Cross Country and Track teams since his freshman year. He is an active member of Young Life and All Saints Catholic Church, where is involved with Vacation Bible School and food preparation for meals at the Clarksburg Mission. 
 
In January of this year, he was a member of TEC #53 (Teens Encounter Christ) and will assist with TEC #54 this summer.
 
McCarthy is an avid chess player, who was on the BHS Chess Team and competed in the 2016 WVCA Junior Championship at Notre Dame High School. He has played in many tournaments through the Bridgeport Public Library and competes with his brothers and friends. 
 
Throughout the summer months, McCarthy maintains full-time employment as a lifeguard at Oral Lake Fishing Club and landscape work for CSH Rentals. His ultimate goal is to attend West Virginia University where he plans to study business and finance.
 
His grandparents are Janet McCarthy. and the late
Daniel McCarthy, Carolyn Harron and the late Raymond Harron, all of Bridgeport.
