D'Antoni Excited as West Starts in Preseason for Marshall Basketball

By Connect Clarksburg Staff | November 02, 2017
Prior to Sunday's exhibition game, the last time Marshall Thundering Herd freshman Jarrod West played in front of a big crowd was the Class A boys basketball state championship in March when he started fast and scored 29 to lead Clarksburg Notre Dame to a title over Ravenswood.

The performance was the crown jewel of a senior season that led West to the Evans Award given to West Virginia's top male basketball player and a scholarship signing with Marshall.

Marshall head coach Dan D'Antoni knew West could develop into a strong player. However, he also anticipated there would be a learning curve.

As West showed D'Antoni, though, he's proficient at starting fast.

West's preseason practice performance garnered him a start in the Herd's exhibition win over WVU Tech and he finished with 16 points, four assists, four rebounds and a team-high three steals in 23 minutes of action.
