Popular Businessman and Restauranteur "Chicken Louie" Bonasso dies at age 85

Louis Ignatius “Chicken Louie” Bonasso, 85, of Mt. Clare, WV, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born in Wyatt, WV, on October 7, 1931, a son of the late Pete and Kate Morasco Bonasso.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Endres Bonasso. 

Mr. Bonasso is survived by two sons, Louis Pete Bonasso and his wife Toni of Dublin, OH and David Bonasso of Clarksburg; two daughters, Christine Ielapi and husband James of Bridgeport and Vicki Veltri and husband Michael of Mt. Clare; seven grandchildren, Michael A. Veltri, Kyle Lynne Demeter, Louis P. Bonnasso, Jr., Florence M. Barnes, Annette C. Madsen, Joseph Ielapi, and Samuel Ielapi; four great grandchildren; his brother, Samuel G. Bonasso of Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell P. Bonasso and Frank A. Bonasso; and one sister, Lucille Bonasso Morgan.

He graduated from Shinnston High School Class of 1949 and attended Ohio State University.  Mr. Bonasso was a well-known local business man; pursuing many interests including owning multiple Kentucky Fried Chicken Franchises.  He was Catholic by faith.

Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, on Monday, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. There will be a prayer vigil at 7:30 to conclude the visitation.

Family will gather at All Saints Catholic Church from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service on Tuesday.

A Mass of Christin Burial will be celebrated at All Saints Catholic Church, 317 E. Main Street, Bridgeport, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 with Reverend Father Hiliarion Cann as celebrant.

Interment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
