This week we observe Independence Day or the Fourth of July.  In 1776 this is the day the  the Declaration of Independence was signed.  I hope you will take the time to observe this holiday for its true meaning.  After all we do enjoy the blessings set forth in the declaration. We should be thankful that we are the greatest and freest nation on earth.  Once we have done this then we can enjoy all the activities planned for this holiday.

If you like fireworks like I do then there are many times that you will be able to enjoy them.  Be sure to check the schedule of events for times and locations. The Amp will host the Wheeling Symphony followed by a fireworks display.  This is all free thanks to the support of the Cultural Foundation and the Barbara B. Highland Fund for the Arts. This event will be held on July 3.

I want to remind you that the organization, Women Who Care in Harrison County will be meeting at the Bridgeport Country Club on Wednesday, July 12 at 6:30  This is a great organization and supports  many worthwhile projects in our community.. They are looking for members and for projects that may need support. For more information call 304 476 9243.

This past week I had a business meeting at the PWA and after the meeting I dropped into the dining room to observe what was going on. They  were having their "free hands on cooking class" with guest speaker Brad Riffee. This class was about fish and the speaker demonstrated how to filet a fish and then how to cook it.  They prepared about five different dishes and then they all sat down to taste them. They invited me and our treasurer Laura Goff Davis to sit down and eat with them and I must say that all the prepared dishes were wonderful.

The next class will be on July 21 from 1:00 to 3:00  and is free but you musts register by calling 304 623 9219.  This class will be on grains and breads. I have offered to demonstrate making frittis if they need my services.  Belinda Moore will be the guest speaker.  Be sure to call to register and they even provide  free baby sitting services.  Call your friends and invite them to come along with you.

Deonna Crowe is the director of this program with a committee of volunteers.   Sponsors of the program are The United Way, The Clarksburg Farmers Market, The PWA and the Produce House.  I can smell that hot bread now and cannot wait to sit down and eat it.

The PWA, which is a United Way Agency, will be sponsoring a Vera Bradley Bingo on Sunday, July 23 at the VFW at 1:00.  Tickets are $20.00 and can be purchased at the door or by calling a PWA member or stopping in the PWA office.  Concessions will be available.  The PWA is known for the wonderful gifts they include in each bag.  Sponsors of this event are the Blue Knights and the VFW.

TOGETHER AGAIN will be theme of the Evening of Elegance event being sponsored by the PWA.  It will be held on Sunday, August 6 at the Uptown Event Center.  Clothing will be supplied by Coni and Franc with a wonderful meal and entertainment.  Stay tuned here for more information. Sharon Twinnier is the chair of this project and the fashion show is being chaired by Debbie Merandi and Leslie Queen Pruitt with a return of all those beautiful models used in the original Italian Festival fashion shows.

Have a safe holiday and a happy birthday to Bridget Cann. and all  you July babies.  Keep in touch and until next week "Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine."
