Krystian's Kolumn: Looking Forward to a Special Visitor for Thanksgiving This Year

Kid, you’ll move mountains.  ~ Dr. Seuss

Temps are dropping, and last week I helped my dad with fall clean up and that came with cleaning the fireplace that I am lucky enough to have in my living space. Already I find myself in the Christmas spirit and looking forward to a Thanksgiving week with a special visit from my Grandmama from Texas, and a busy week planned to celebrate her 62 birthday, complete with seeing Lady Gaga in concert in Pittsburgh!

This past week I had the best time shooting a local commercial for White’s Jewelry in Fairmont. So you might have already seen it on Bravo or your local Time Warner channel. Love their jewelry selections, and have a few pieces added to my Christmas list.

This week was filled with finishing edits for another special Channel Kindness story, and video to shoot for my Channel Kindness Instagram takeover, which I chose to shoot on our WVU campus. I will be sharing some of what makes my work as a Channel Kindness reporter not only important, but essential in a world that is filled with hurt. By sharing the good that is in our community I have a part in inspiring and lifting spirits. I hope you will follow Channel Kindness on Instagram and keep tuning in for positive stories. Reading positive news and highlighting those individuals who give selflessly to others gives me hope for a kinder tomorrow.

When children learn to be kind, it helps them to become happier individuals. Reading books was essential to my childhood and I have so many memories surrounded by the stories my mom would share with me. Some of which were her childhood favorites. Every night, a book or maybe two if I could persuade my tired parents to read, despite having heard the tale 100 times. The stories never got old. And this past week after my Shining Scars board meeting, I had a moment where I realized and hope that a child will have that same experience, this time with my Shining Scars book. And not just in the U.S. but somewhere in that big world of ours.

With the power of social media I received two special messages and requests for a copy of Shining Scars. One from Scotland and the other Columbia, I consider it an honor to fill these requests with lots of love and above all hope. Hope that a child healing with scars will grow up loving their shining reminder and be a little stronger when someone tries to make them feel less than perfect. Hope that children everywhere will love themselves and embrace who they are on the inside, that bullying will end because children will not give in to hate.  Here’s to helping children move mountains and love every part of who they are inside and out.
