Voting concluded last week to determine the 2017 inductees into the Southern Trout Magazine's “Legends of the Fly” Hall of Fame ceremony to be held on February 3rd at the Atlanta Fly Fishing Show. And to know one's surprise, West Virginia's most popular and well-known fisherman Curtis Fleming will be
included in the 2017 class.
Over 13,000 votes were cast and all of the two dozen nominees received respectable numbers of votes. However, only the six nominees with the highest tally of votes will be inducted. Voting participation was quite overwhelming.
This year’s class includes:
The legendary North Carolina fly fisherman and fly tier, the late Don Howell.
Curtis Fleming of Bridgeport, West Virginia, the host of the popular television show "Fly Rod Chronicles", and Cabela’s “Fly Fishing Ambassador”.
Gary Merriman of Atlanta, Georgia, whom many regard as the “Fly Fishing Ambassador of the Peach State”.
J. Wayne Fears of Huntsville, Alabama and author of the first modern era book on Southern Appalachian trout fishing.
Soc Clay of Fern Hollow, Kentucky, a lifelong fly fisherman, pioneer outdoor writer and at one-time the Poet Laurette of the Bluegrass State.
Legendary pre-national park era fly fisherman and hounds man, the late “Uncle” Mark Cathey of Bryson City, North Carolina.
The enthusiasm shown for the first year of this ST/Fly Fishing Show sponsored event has been humbling.
The induction ceremony will be held on February 3rd. Southern Trout will give away a new Hardy fly rod in a drawing at the conclusion of the event. For more information on the event, contact Don Kirk email@example.com
